Master Clown 2023
Hello Fellow Joeys!
I would like to take this time to thank everyone who has played a
part in helping me reach my goal of becoming WCA Master Clown!
By this, I really mean any and all of you who have taken the time to get
to know me, to have a chat about clowning, who have clowned with
me, mentored me, who I’ve studied from and those that have studied
from me.
Master Clown is much more than a title to me… it brings some
validation to everything I have accomplished over that last 32 years to
lead me to this point in time. I am proud of the fact that I am standing
along side of these 4 other Master Clowns whom I look up to and
admire; Luis Casiano, Randy Christensen, Ben Christensen and
Edmund Khong. I am proud to be the first female Master Clown,
and I look forward to seeing others join me in the ranks!
Some of you, I’ve known since the beginning of my clown
journey back in 1991; and others I just may have met for the first
time at a convention. However, I have come to really cherish any
time I have to spend with my clown family and I’ll tell you why…
Clowning is so special to me. It is in my blood… it’s who I am.
Having the "heart of a clown" is necessary, and believe me, you
don’t get too far in your clowning career if you don’t have the right
intentions, empathy for people, and understand how to spread joy,
kindness and love. It all comes from your heart.
Clowning is also very individual and that’s also what makes it so
special! The uniqueness of your clown, and your clowning style
makes up the clown you are… I love seeing how everyone uses their
talents to put together their clown character and shows. That's what
sets our clown apart from others, and there’s no one 'best' way to do
that. Be true to yourself, be honest with your audience, and they will
be on your side 100%!
It’s apparent that I could ramble on about clowning for hours on
end… because it is my passion. I was lucky enough to find this passion
in my 20's, and what started as a hobby; has morphed into my full-
time business of Jazzi Entertainment! (jazzientertainment.com)
and has been since 1991!
I will be attending the 2024 WCA convention in Orlando again, and
will be reconnecting with many clown friends and always enjoy
making new ones too! So, please introduce yourself to me if we haven't
met… I love to give back by sharing stories, swapping ideas, giving
helpful suggestions, and being as supportive as I can in your own
clown journey!
~Smiles,
Patti "Jazzi" Ummel
